Browse FilesFiles stay on your device. Around 100 MB is a practical guide — actual limits depend on your browser and memory.
Page numbers are the smallest thing that makes a long document usable. Toolzio's Add Page Numbers tool stamps page numbers onto a PDF in your choice of position, format, size, and color, free and without an account, entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server, so a report, a manuscript, or a legal bundle can be numbered without handing it to anyone.
Without page numbers, every reference becomes vague: "somewhere in the middle" instead of "page 14". With them, a table of contents works, a reviewer can point to an exact page, and a printed set that gets dropped can be put back in order. Position is a practical choice — bottom centre is the convention for most documents, a corner suits documents that already carry footers — and size and color should follow the document, not fight it: large enough to find at a glance, quiet enough not to distract from the content. Format covers how the number itself appears, so the result matches the document's style rather than looking stamped on as an afterthought.
Page numbers are added on top of the existing pages; the tool does not rewrite or reflow your document's text, so layout stays as it was. Numbering cannot unlock an encrypted PDF, so unlock a protected file first. After numbering, open the result and check the first, a middle, and the last page: that catches a position that clashes with existing footers, which is the one mistake worth fixing before you send the file.
Numbering also makes long documents navigable in conversation: a reviewer can cite page 14, a colleague can jump straight to it, and a printed set that gets dropped can be reassembled in order instead of guessed at. For reports and manuscripts, number the whole document in one pass rather than numbering sections separately, because a single consistent sequence is what readers and tables of contents rely on. If your document already has footers, check that the numbers do not sit on top of existing footer text — a clash there is the one layout problem worth fixing before the file goes out, and it only takes a glance at a middle page to spot it.
Very large files are limited by your device memory. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. This is a focused single-purpose tool, not a full desktop PDF suite.
