Every PDF carries a quiet second document inside it: its metadata. Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer are stored in the file itself, and they travel with it wherever it goes. Toolzio's PDF Metadata tool lets you view and edit those fields, free and without an account, entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server, which is fitting for a tool whose whole purpose is controlling what a file reveals about itself.
Metadata matters in two opposite situations. The first is presentation: a file titled "Untitled" with no author looks unfinished when it lands in a client's inbox or a document library, while a proper title, author, and subject make the same file look like the finished work it is. The second is privacy: a file can carry the name of the person who created it, the software that produced it, and keywords from an earlier draft — details you may not want attached to a document you are about to share widely. Viewing the fields first tells you which situation you are in; editing them lets you fix it, whether that means filling in a blank title or clearing out details before sharing.
Editing metadata changes the document's information fields only; it does not alter the pages, text, or layout of the PDF itself. Some fields are set by the software that created the file and may be refreshed by that software if the file is edited there again, so treat metadata editing as part of your final export step, not an early one. The tool cannot unlock an encrypted PDF, so unlock a protected file first. After editing, view the fields once more to confirm they read the way you intended before you send the file on.
Good metadata also helps documents get found again. A clear title and a sensible subject mean a file can be located by searching a shared drive or a document library months later, while a file left as 'Untitled' can only be found by someone who already knows where it is. For team documents, the author field is worth setting properly too, so that a future reader knows who produced the file without having to ask around. None of this changes a single word on the page — it simply makes the file behave like a finished, cared-for document wherever it ends up, instead of an anonymous attachment.
Very large files are limited by your device memory. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. This is a focused single-purpose tool, not a full desktop PDF suite.
Privacy: your file is read by your browser only. Toolzio does not upload, store, or log your document contents for this tool.
